Description

The warrior nomad trail is the perfect way to discover Uganda’s untamed northeast. Experience Karamoja by following the cattle paths of the nomadic warriors and learn about the pastoral culture. Cycle over community trails through the villages and interact with indigenous communities and ride over abandoned colonial roads to discover the raw wilderness of the northeast, including parks like Kidepo Valley National Park and Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. This trail is the longest of the four and stretches around 475km in 5 stages. Although the Warrior nomad trails travels through hilly areas like Napak, Moroto and Murongole the total elevation gains reaches just over 3,000 meters, which makes it relatively flat.

This stage is completely situated in Karimojong land. You will cycle on wide main roads, mostly unpaved roads. Enjoy the nice views and the arid local environment.

Stage 19: Amudat - Moroto

Route43km
Climbing Meters638

The road to Moroto is mostly unpaved. This combined with the continuous climbing and the heat can make this stage a challenging one. However the environment is stunning and very special.

Stage 20: Moroto - Kotido

Route61km
Climbing Meters620
Unpaved60%

The route leads over wide tarmac and murram main roads to Kotido. Technically it’s easy to ride and does not contain much elevation. However it’s the longest stage of the Uganda Cycling Trail so kudos if you complete it.

Stage 21: Kotido-Kaabong

Route63km
Climbing Meters752
Unpaved70%

Absolutely beautiful off-road trail that routes parallel to the rift that forms the natural Uganda/Kenya border. The distance and the climbing make this route an interesting challenge.

Stage 22: Kaabong-Kidepo

Route69km
Climbing Meters755
Unpaved95%

The trail that leads to the entry gate of Kidepo Valley National Park is already wonderful, but the real deal is cycling in one of the most isolated National Parks of Uganda. You will see loads of wildlife such as buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, giraffes, etc.
